About Siddington Village Hall

A treasured community asset, Siddington Village Hall has been at the heart of the village both literally and metaphorically for over 100 years.

Built in 1921, its original primary stated objective was for the:

“... provision and maintenance of a village hall for the use of the inhabitants of Siddington without distinction of political, religious, or other opinions, including use for meetings, lectures and classes, and for other forms of recreation, and leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants”.

Currently the hall is in use nearly every day with classes, activities, meetings and celebrations. It is a very large space with two rooms available for hire alongside a healthy list of facilities – please see full details on our dedicated Facilities’ page.

Operated entirely by local volunteers, the hall is the village’s resource to make the most of for all sorts of occasions and activities. And it is still very keenly priced to make sure that everyone can utilise it - weekend children’s parties are only £55 for four hours and weekdays are just £12 an hour; we’re still the best value locally!

History of Siddington Village Hall and Archive

Siddington Village Hall was built in 1921 on land off Ashton Road in the centre of Siddington village.

Originally the hall was constructed as a memorial hall to honour local residents who were killed in The Great War (World War I). Lord Bathurst bequeathed the land. The cost of building the hall was covered by fundraising events and donations organised by the then residents of Siddington. In our Archives section below, you can see scans of Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard articles from 1921 describing the meetings, fundraising events, and opening ceremony.

The building stone for the main hall is understood to have been recycled from a derelict Cotswold barn that originally stood at the end of “The Common” in Siddington.

There was a grand opening ceremony with Lord Bathurst opening the hall. You can read about this in the archive news article here.

During the intervening years, toilets, a kitchen, a store, a committee meeting room and most recently the porch have all been added to further improve the valuable community asset.

The current Board of Trustees has very recently undertaken extensive refurbishment to toilet facilities, bringing them up to date and improving accessibility. The garden is a huge asset at the hall and perfect for summer fetes and garden parties.

Today the hall is still owned by the village and is held in trust within a UK-registered charity no. 266818. It is operated according to the trust’s governing document dated 4th March 1975 (with subsequent amendments).
